History
One
day in January 1984 while at work, Joan Tuohy, Belinda McCauley and Adrian
Moore discussed the possibility of starting a Musical Society in Boyle.
Joan placed the following notice in the Roscommon Herald of Friday 20th
January 1984 to see if there would be sufficient local interest in the
idea

A
meeting was held in the Forest Park Hotel on Tuesday 24th January 1984.
A substantial number of interested people turned up.
That
night, Boyle Musical Society was born and the first committee elected.

The
meeting discussed several show possibilities. It was eventually agreed
that “The White Horse Inn” was to be the first production.
Liam O'Callaghan was appointed as show director.
Rehearsals
commenced straight away and the show was staged in St Joseph’s Hall
for five nights commencing on Sunday 29th April 1984.
Thus started Boyle Musical Society. Every year since
then we have staged a musical show. Our Society is alive and well today,
having staged our 28th production in November 2011. We very much acknowledge
and appreciate the enthusiastic support we get from the people of Boyle
and surrounding areas in terms of attendances, facilities and financial
sponsorship. We would not have survived so long or been as successfull
without such generosity.
